Harder to get fair share of tourism pie

Tourists getting a taste of the new city tour made available with KL Hop-On Hop-Off tourist bus, the only semi glass roof double-decker tourist bus in Malaysia.

I REFER to the letter “Disruption affects tourism sector too” (The Star, May 8) and would like to relate the real situation in the tourism industry and tour guiding profession in Malaysia.

Training tour guides is now a profit-making business and colleges are churning out more guides each year. After paying an average of almost RM7,000 to attend and pass the tour guide course, licensed tour guides have to compete to get tours or work, failing which they would be unable to renew their licences.
