I WAS taken aback and appalled to read on page 2 of The Star on Tuesday, under the subtitle “Expert Opinion”, retired judge Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram taking issue with Tun Dr Mahathir’s submission of senior lawyer Tommy Thomas’ name to the Yang Di Pertuan Agong as the Government’s nominee for the position of Attorney-General of Malaysia.
Sri Ram questioned Thomas’ competency to be the AG and reportedly said, “Without criminal procedure knowledge how can the AG be competent enough to ask the right things and guide his men in the right direction when drafting charges?” Sri Ram went on to say, “You can’t send a person in there who has absolutely no clue”.
