Section 506 of the Penal Code needs to be reviewed


THE Institutional Reforms Committee (IRC) set up by the prime minister has welcomed suggestions from the public to highlight issues that need to be looked into to initiate reforms in the country.

I would like to bring to the attention of the members of the IRC Section 506 of the Penal Code (Kanun Keseksaan) “Punishment for Criminal Intimidation”, where the investigating officer (IO) in PDRM can remand anyone, even without reasonable doubt, for “investigation”.
