Smoke-free vision can be realised

I REFER to the report “Health Ministry urges more malls to enforce non-smoking rule” (The Star, June 21).

I believe it is possible to achieve the Government’s great vision of being a smoke-free nation by 2045 if every party takes part in realising it. Therefore, I strongly support Sunway Group’s efforts in declaring its premises a no-smoking zone.

If more shopping malls and recreational centres emulate the group’s move, and also enforce the no-smoking laws strictly, we can accomplish this vision before 2045.

The Health Ministry is doing its part to encourage the public to take this issue seriously and should deserve some praise.

Ensuring a healthy lifestyle is important especially for children who have their future to look forward to. Smokers can undermine the health of non-smokers, including children, causing them to suffer from asthma, breathing problems and other illnesses.

And when people quit smoking, not only would they be able to live a healthy life but they would save money as well.

I strongly believe strict enforcement can make people give up smoking. Nothing is impossible.
