The case against the Rukunegara as a preamble

WE read with interest the letter “Why Rukunegara must be preamble to Constitution” (The Star, Feb 15) by Dr Chandra Muzaffar, the chairman of the Rukunegara Mukadimah Perlembagaan (RMP) Initiative. While the intention of Dr Chandra and his friends is noble, upon deeper consideration this RMP initiative appears to overlook the complexities of such a move along with the complications and confusion that it will bring.

Let me state from the outset that we have great respect for the Rukunegara and it is important to encourage all Malaysians to understand and put into practice the ideology and principles set out in the Rukunegara.
