Tough to clear city of illegal posters

Illegal Ah long (along) posters seen along Jalan Raden Bagus, Seri Petaling. RAJA FAISAL HISHAN/The Star.

KUALA Lumpur and other cities and towns in Malaysia are inundated with thousands of illegal posters, bunting, stickers, banners, directions for wedding receptions and etc. These are not only illegal but are also an eyesore, making the surroundings look dirty and ugly.

DBKL has in the past year been on a very aggressive campaign to remove these illegal advertisements but the task has been extremely challenging. As soon as the banners, posters and etc. are removed and the areas where they were put up are cleaned, someone will come around and put up more. DBKL workers removed over a million illegal posters and terminated the phone lines of several hundred people last year but an equal number, if not more, illegal posters sprung up in the same locations.
