Assorted traditional Malay kuihs served as snacks in the buffet

I REFER to Pola Singh’s letter, “Put health before the delicious”. He is right. Our taste buds have been carpet-bombed for so long with sugar and salt that we have lost our innate ability to appreciate and savour the vast varieties of flavours in fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and more.

The moment we feel the food is too bland (read: not sweet or salty enough), we reach for the sauce bottle that is inevitably packed with sugar and salt.
