Killing Bahasa Malaysia with foreign words

INSTEAD of “Upholding Bahasa Malaysia” as the national language (Memartabatkan Bahasa Malaysia), it seems like Bahasa Malaysia continues to be “polluted” by English words. If there is an original word in Bahasa Malaysia, by all means use it; do not substitute it with an English word.

I was shocked to read an article in a Malay daily titled “Pemulihan ban kawasan terjejas di Selangor siap hari ini”. I believe the word “ban” refers to the English word “bund” since the article was about getting ready to face the tidal wave phenomenon. When, I wondered, was “benteng” replaced by “ban”?
