I REFER to the report “Six million have no pension coverage” (The Star, Aug 12) in which Employees Provident Fund (EPF) deputy chief executive officer (Strategy) Tunku Alizakri Alias disclosed that 44% or six million of our Malaysian work force are not covered by any retirement scheme.
People who are self employed or work in the semi formal sector are not covered by a retirement scheme because there is a lack of comprehensive protection system for them. This is very alarming as many people simply do not know how to save for retirement.
