Lauding ministry’s commitment to protect the children

I REFER to the report “Taking rapists to task” (The Star, Aug 5). In Malaysia, we practise a dual legal system, civil law and syariah. Respect is accorded to decisions made by both courts in matters concerning custody of children and where there has been an issue of rape. Various agencies may sometimes be caught in between when it comes to taking action against a perpetrator as the decisions of the two courts may differ.

A number of proposals have been made by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry on these issues.
