Give students cash instead of book vouchers

I WAS appalled to read the reports on the 1Malaysia Book Vouchers (BB1M) scam, “Shops cash in on vouchers” (The Star, March 31).

The RM250 BB1M vouchers are given to university students to ease their financial burden in buying books and it is unethical for the students to exchange them for cash. It defies the Government’s effort to inculcate the reading habit among undergraduates. The bookshop owners who profit from these unethical transactions should be reprimanded.
