WHEN we were in school (English medium) we were taught British English. The first floor of a building, which is on ground level, is called the “Ground” floor.
In a lift, the “G” button refers to the “Ground” floor. However, nowadays, the English that we use can be a mix of British English and American English. This is where the “Ground” floor is referred to as the “First” floor and as such in some buildings, there is no “G” button in the lifts. The “G” is replaced by “1”.
