ALMOST half a million Year Six students nationwide are now sitting for their first major national exam, UPSR. The results of this exam, expected to be announced in November, basically sum up the achievement levels of our students over the six years of primary education.

The preparation for this exam begins months, perhaps years, before the actual date. The high stakes of this exam, especially for those vying for residential schools, simply mean students have no choice but to do very well. That translates into 5As for national schools and 7As for vernacular schools.
