Thanks G25 for your brave stand

I WAS struck with awe when the G25 first came out with their now famous open letter. I have since followed avidly every single announcement, event, and report pertaining to the group’s actions, and I continue to be awed!

The G25 is a phenomenon. They are the greatest thing to have happened to our beloved country. It is unheard of anywhere in the world. Here is a group of the most powerful, the most privileged and the most eminent past leaders assembled together to speak up and work relentlessly to save our country in a time of grave crisis.

To say that they are true patriots and just leave it at that is missing the most extraordinary thing about them, and that is they are all Malays, they are all Muslims, they are all establishment figures, they are all top-notch, accomplished leaders and professionals.

They have everything one could wish for – lifelong achievement, prestige, retirement rewards and benefits and special privileges to boot ... All of which would make any normal individual justifiably feel self-satisfied and complacent.

But the G25 is much more than normal individuals. They tower above the rest of us for being able to think beyond race, religion and personal privilege, and for their passion to fight for an inclusive, just, tolerant, moderate, multicultural, and multi-religious Malaysia.

Their commitment to the supremacy of Parliament, their allegiance to the institution of a Constitutional Monarchy and their advocacy of a benign, inclusive and forward looking Islam which does not interfere in the workings of a secular state – all that is what our founding fathers had built for us, and which lies close to the hearts of true Malaysians.

We salute you, G25!
