English will surely die a slow death

WHATEVER anyone says, no matter how we argue it out, the fact is that English as a language in Malaysia will die a slow death, after my generation dies. This is common sense.

The British may have been an influence in Malaya from 1826 to 1942 historically, yet it was only after the war in 1946 that the Malayan Union was formed. If we were to consider the founding of Penang Free School on Oct 21, 1816 – the first English medium school – as the beginning of English medium education in the country, then it has taken Malaysia (Malaya before 1963) some 150 years to achieve our proficiency in English.
