WHILE the Inspector-General of Police may have his reasons for suggesting that Penang be the temporary shelter for Rohingyas who are fleeing their country, it would need careful consideration before a decision is made by the authorities.

First, we must scrutinise every refugee to make sure they are indeed from Myanmar and are victims of oppression in their homeland. Temporary shelter should not be extended to illegal immigrants especially those from Bangladesh who are said to be in big numbers in every boat heading here.
