THE recent kidnap and murder of a Datuk Seri in Bukit Mertajam laid bare the dark world of illegal money lending, as all those arrested were involved in that activity.

There are no records as to how big this “industry” is, but I believe it runs into billions. It is unregulated, with interest rates running into the hundreds of per cent, collected on a daily basis.
