To cane or not to cane debate

THE news of a poor child lashed to death by his mother is a classic case of child abuse, which unfortunately is accepted in many households in our society.

Caning is viewed as a standard measure to discipline a child and parents often think they have all the right to punish their children by caning. This brings me to the issue of sparing the cane which is an ongoing and heavily argued topic.
