Justice for both parties is vital

I REFER to the article 'High time for the leaders to act' (The Star, April 16) which touched on the dilemma arising from the conversion to Islam of Izwan Abdullah a.k.a N.Viran and the subsequent custody battle with his ex-wife, S. Deepa over their two children. This and other such similar cases have stumped our nation every now and then.

The above maelstrom is a direct result of our country having two sets of laws; civil and syariah; both of which are sanctioned by the Federal Constitution.
