City dwellers numb to suffering of others

A LOT of people have told me that nowadays they fear coming out of their house, because they feel Kuala Lumpur is no longer a safe city. I have lived overseas much of my youth so I am well aware of the dangers of living in a big city.

Yesterday’s Star report about heartless Malaysians not helping Madam Tan Kim Chuan who was attacked, robbed and left to die, shows that many of us living in the big cities have become numb to the suffering of others, and the FEAR of our own safety has made many of us reluctant to help others.
