Ensure the safety of tourists

IT is time the Tourism Ministry set up a special unit to monitor various issues, shortcomings and concerns affecting tourists. The recent death of tourists in the Cameron Highlands bus and Mersing bumboat tragedies necessitates this.

The special unit should be given extensive powers to check tour buses, boats and ferries, tourist vans, etc, as well as safety features in tourist destinations all over the country and make recommendations to the authorities concerned.
