Living donors not needed if more pledge organs

I REFER to “Living donors a viable option” (The Star, Nov 16). Living donors have been used successfully as sources of organs for kidney and liver transplants to treat patients with end-stage organ failure.

Because of a shortage of cadaveric donors, almost 80% of the kidney transplants performed in this country come from living, related donors, and with good outcome. Living kidney donation is associated with low risk, and many such operations have been carried out successfully.
