Don’t make buyers the scapegoat

I READ with interest the report in The Star about the proposed “fine” for those purchasing pirate DVDs. Since when did the public become responsible for doing the job of government bodies such as those of Domestic Trade and the police?

If the public buys DVDs not from a shady man in a long overcoat in dark doorways but from regular retail outlets like those in Prangin Mall, Gurney Plaza and hundreds of others all over Malaysia, how would regular people know them to be fake?
