Expose kids to educational cartoons

I REFER to the letter “Learning English can be a lot of fun” (Sunday Star, March 28) in which he wrote: “... parents should play a greater role in developing the knowledge (English) of their children in any way possible ... e.g. while you are driving, you can converse with them in English about your destination and agenda for the day ...”

While I agree with him, I wonder how the illiterate East Coast Malay fisherman, for example, could explain to his son in English why there are so many fishes in the sea or the illiterate Indian rubber tapper explain to his son in English why rubber trees produce latex and how to spell latex, or the illiterate Chinese vegetable farmer explain to his son why vegetables need fertiliser.
