Beach touts operate with near impunity

I READ with interest the letter from a frustrated British tourist to Penang’s Batu Ferringhi, wherein he complained of the absence of cleaners on the beach, that locals were not keeping the beach clean and that this was keeping tourists away.

I might add that tourists might also be staying away from the beach and going elsewhere because of the growing number of beach touts operating in front of the hotels and resorts, selling everything from jet-ski and para-sail to horse rides.
