I REFER to the report “No bias in state dept job intake” (The Star, May 27.) It seems like there are never ending streams of goodies being heaped on civil servants. The latest being the extension of retirement age and the increase in pension entitlement. Earlier, their salary scales were given hefty adjustments. All these incentives are inducing more people to join the civil service.
Sadly, the number of non-Malay candidates remains very small. The Government, on its part, has always maintained that the recruitments process has been fair and jobs in the civil service are meant for all. As often stated, it is the policy of the Government to see more non-Malay employees in the civil service to reflect the nation’s identity.
