THE Immigration Department should be commended for using the newly gazetted Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act to rescue and provide shelter to 16 women who were victims of trafficking as reported by The Star on March 27.
Human trafficking is a modern-day slavery, which is regarded as the third most lucrative criminal industry in the world with an estimated annual revenue of US$9.5 billion.
