Laws too lax to protect pangolins

THE demand is great. The price is good and business is thriving. Coupled with our lax laws, this could be the reason of late for the increase in smuggling activities of wildlife, particularly of pangolins, in spite of the animals being fully protected.  

Recently, the police arrested five men and seized 21 pangolins at a roadblock in the interior of Tenom waiting to be smuggled to the peninsula ‘Five held for having pangolins' (The Star, Sept 18).
