Picture proves Cheng Lock was at padang

I READ with considerable interest the letters from Pesona Pictures Sdn Bhd and Tunku Ismail Jewa debating whether my grandfather, the late Tun Tan Cheng Lock, was present at Dataran Merdeka at midnight on Aug 30,1957 when the Union Jack was lowered and the Malayan flag raised for the first time.

The Straits Times has a photograph showing my grandfather being helped by the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra al-Haj and the late Tun Sardon Jubir and the caption says the photograph was taken on Aug 30, 1957 at the Merdeka midnight rally in Kuala Lumpur.
