Deciding on cancer vaccine

I REFER to “Cervical cancer vaccine” (The Star, March 28). It is disheartening that, despite a 2002 Health Ministry report that Malaysia has the highest incidence of cervical cancer compared to other Asian countries and is the number 2 cancer killer of women, only 30% of women do PAP smears regularly.

The US Food and Drug Administration in June 2006 approved Quadrivalent Human Papillomavirus (HPV types 6,11,16,18) Recombinant Vaccine (Gardasil) for vaccination of females aged nine to 26 years of age.
