Link pensions to CPI to be fair to pensioners

I REFER to the letter, “Stop the demand and help yourself” (The Star, July 28). The writer has got it all wrong. 

How are pensioners going to get a job when even young graduates have difficulty getting employed nowadays? 

What pensioners are asking for is their just dues after so many years of service. 

Many are truly having to make ends meet due primarily to their meagre pension as a result of the low wage structure they were getting when they retired. 

A fairer way to help pensioners is to have their pensions indexed against the Consumer Price Index so that their pensions are automatically adjusted according to the annual rate of inflation.
