MANILA: The predicted “La Nina” weather phenomenon (of heavy rains even during summer, the opposite of drought caused by “El Nino”) can be a blessing in disguise to Filipino rice farmers.
Our farmers cannot produce enough rice for lack of water. With an excess of rainwater, they can now produce two crops of “palay” (rice before milling) during the year.
