THE public should be happy that the Transport Ministry is introducing changes to deal with illegal taxi operators and touts who have been fleecing passengers for years without fear of reprisal.

Its minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy said on Monday that the Road Transport Act 1987 would be amended so that tough action could be taken to deal with them including a RM5,000 fine, five years' jail or both.
