THERE is definitely great merit in the view given by Maria Chin Abdullah of the Women's Development Collective that sending spouses who do not pay alimony to jail would, in turn, cause more problems as time in prison would result in job loss and no income, “Group: Courts should force ex-spouses to pay alimony”, (Sunday Star, Oct 9).
Ultimately, the children will be the losers. Due consideration has also not been given to the fact that the children of such parents will be stigmatised as having a parent who has actually done time in prison.
