THE 40-something saffron-robed sanyasin, Uma Bharti, has a knack for staying in the news.
Her quirky mannerisms, an earthy common sense laced with ready references to the ancient Hindu religious texts make her a huge draw for ordinary folk in the Indian heartland who come in droves to hear her expound her political philosophy and to spew venom at the Italian-born Congress party leader, Sonia Gandhi. Only a few months ago she had successfully led the BJP campaign to wrest power from the Congress Party in her home state of Madhya Pradesh.
