Why sacrifice university seats to foreign students

I DISAGREE with the move by the Government to have 5% of total enrolment in undergraduate programmes taken up by foreign students (“Govt wants 5% foreign undergrad enrolment”, The Star July 16). 

Understandably, backbenchers in Parliament have already expressed doubts over this proposal and feel that the seats should be given first to local students.
