DHAKA: The United States on Monday listed Bangladesh as one of 10 countries that fail to adequately fight the trafficking of women and children, presaging economic sanctions if the situation has not improved demonstrably by October.
According to the US State Department report, Bangladesh is a significant country of origin and transit for trafficked women and children, and has been included on the list of offending countries because it has not made significant efforts to prosecute traffickers and has not addressed the complicity of government officials in the trafficking.
