THE police should indeed play a greater role in helping to curb truancy. Both parents and teachers will certainly appreciate the intervention of the force in nabbing students who stay away from school. 

Although a greater portion of the responsibility may lie with home and schools, it is not practical for working parents and teaching staff to spend their time on the streets, malls and cafes to look for wayward culprits.
