Thorny issues emerge over five days of COP7 discussions

THE over-2,000 delegates at the ongoing United Nations meeting on biodiversity in Kuala Lumpur took a much needed rest this weekend after a hectic five days of talks, with most joining excursions to see the country’s many natural sights. 

Some delegates, however, cancelled their Sunday plans and returned to the conference rooms of the Putra World Trade Centre because differences remain over how best to preserve and sustainably use earth’s rich array of species.
