When Fumihiko Konishi visited Malaysia for the first time in 1968, he knew he would be back again. He did, and he set up Texchem, which is now a regionally established company. CHOONG KWEE KIM reports. 

LUCK may have brought the young chemist Fumihiko Konishi from Nanao, in Japan's Ishikawa Prefecture, to Malaysia but it was sheer hard work and an enterprising spirit that made him what he is today – the boss of the Texchem business empire and patron of music in Penang.
