That was not the Apec that was

The Apec forum was once described by former Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke as " four adjectives in search of a noun." With the last two adjectives crowded out at its latest summit in Bangkok, Apec has degenerated further into 21 economies in search of a joint purpose.

NEWS reports from the 15th Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (Apec) Summit in Bangkok on Wednesday outdid themselves in speculating who had “won” or “lost” in US efforts to make security the centrepiece of the economic forum. Regrettably for news reporting, media spin kept clear of examining the consequences of this move for the region and its institutions.
