NEW DELHI: Amarmani Tripathi, the Uttar Pradesh MLA (member of legislative assembly), arrested for the murder of young, single, poet Madhumita Shukla after DNA tests proved that he was the father of her unborn child, is a perfect example of the current levels of criminality in Indian politics.

There was a time when criminals were used by politicians to do their dirty work, but for the last couple of decades criminals themselves have entered politics and used their political clout to paper over their dirty deeds.
