BANGKOK: By stomping on TV advertising of alcoholic products, the government has taken a course of action in its fight against alcohol abuse to a new level. Any attempt now to water down its resolve will only result in damage to its credibility. 

The Thaksin administration has made its stand, despite the effects it will have on the advertising industry and liquor-supported social activities, and it must stick to it: alcohol consumption must be curtailed.
