Offer tax relief to nurture green technology

I APPLAUD Dr A. Soorian’s vision in calling for industries to manufacture biodegradable plastic bags, “Promote use of plastic bags that are degradable” (The Star, June 11).  

Biodegradable, photodegradable and compostable plastic bags produce no toxic leachate when left to degrade in landfills. They last 24 to 30 months before decomposing when exposed to UV light and heat from landfills.
