THE woes of our local municipal councils never seem to end. This time, a decision by the Penang Island Municipal Council to approve construction of a columbarium or dead people's apartment along the prestigious Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah has drawn protests from building owners, hoteliers and restaurateurs in the area.

They have questioned the rationale behind the approval of the columbarium, which could keep 300,000 urns for storing ashes of the dead, in a location of heritage buildings.
