Kudos for rulings befitting a multi-racial country

I APPLAUD Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s decision to maintain the current ruling on foreign domestic help, “Maid ruling stays”, (The Star, May 7).

I also applaud his recent decision to lift the ban on Bup Kudus, the Iban-language Bible.

Both these decisions were clearly made by a leader who has the courage to do what is right for a multi-racial, multi-religious country like Malaysia, and who soldiers on despite the initiatives and pressures from those championing or inadvertently promoting segregationist tendencies.

I urge my fellow Malaysians of all colours and creeds to show their support for Abdullah in his efforts to make Malaysia not just a multi-racial, multi-religious country in name, but also a working and successful example at that.

I also urge my fellow Malaysians to let their voices be heard whenever attempts are made to create a nation divided along racial and religious lines, because we now know that we have a leader who listens to the voices of tolerance and moderation.
