In 1966, inspired by a verse in Ayurvedic text, Dr G.V. Satyavati set out with zealous determination to prove her hypothesis that the guggul plant had cholestoral-lowering effect. It took 22 years of hard work, but she did it, writes Wong Liza 

SHE looked rather tired, judging from the eyes that peered through her large framed, slightly tinted mahogany-coloured glasses, after speaking at the National Products Asia conference on arriving from India one recent morning.
