Indian governement takes the 'middle path'

THE war in Iraq, predictably, has divided the Indian people. The national opposition is at odds with the Vajpayee government’s stance, which seeks to steer the middle course, neither backing Saddam Hussein’s regime nor, for that matter, President George W. Bush in an unambiguous manner. 

Despite considerable pressure from the Opposition, the Vajpayee government declined to condemn the US-led invasion of Iraq although it asserted for the record that it was against forcible regime change in a sovereign country through outside interference.
