TAMIL Nesan front-paged a report on telecommunications tycoon T. Ananda Krishnan, who has been declared the richest man in Malaysia this year.
Quoting Malaysian Business magazine’s annual ranking of the 40 wealthiest Malaysians, Ananda’s net worth was reported to be around RM8.77bil.
Last year’s richest man “Sugar King” Robert Kuok Hock Nien, who was valued at RM8.01bil, was in second place.
Ananda, who was placed third last year with RM4.2bil, climbed to the top after the listing of his corporate vehicle Maxis Communications Bhd last year, the report said, adding that the tycoon’s empire also included gaming, power generation, entertainment and trading.
The paper also front-paged the arrest of a con man who posed as a “Datuk”, “Dr” and “Colonel” and abused names of charitable organisations to swindle money from the public.
A. Samraj Sinnapan, 37, high on the police wanted list in Negri Sembilan and Selangor, was arrested last Friday at 5.30pm at his mother’s house in Shah Alam.
