DEPENDING on who is talking, it is always the other side that is absorbing the heavier casualties in any war. After three days of fighting, a military spokesman said on Friday (last week), government forces had killed at least 127 rebels from the Muslim separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) while suffering only four casualties.

In one major battle on Wednesday night in Lambayong town in Sultan Kudarat province, at least 25 rebels were killed when they attacked a military detachment, according to Brig-Gen Generoso Senga, commander of the Philippine Army's Sixth Infantry Division.
